Description: Studying and Conserving Birds through Banding: National and Local Efforts - This program will include an overview of the Bird Banding Laboratory (BBL), a long-standing program under the U.S Geological Survey’s Ecosystems Mission Area that supports the collection of data on banded and marked birds across North America, manages vast repositories of such data, and produces and distributes the information needed to understand and track changes in bird populations. Our speakers will then share about the Monitoring Avian Productivity and Survivorship (MAPS) program, an intercontinental banding project focused on breeding bird populations, which Wissahickon Trails has contributed to since 2015. You’ll hear about the importance of this project, lessons learned, and highlights from over a decade of local banding efforts.

Presented by Margaret Rohde, Kristy Morely, and Stephanie Egger

At Liberty Bird Alliance, formerly Wyncote Audubon Society, we welcome everyone to experience the joys of birding. Our mission as an organization is to care for birds, for their habitats, and for the conservation efforts that will keep them with us for generations to come. And we hope you’ll join us in that effort!

Liberty Bird Alliance monthly meetings are open to the public and held on the third Friday of most months from September through May. Meeting details are updated about 2 weeks before each meeting.

Libery Bird Allicance is a Chapter of the National Audubon Society serving the nearly 2000 Audubon members who reside in major portions of Montgomery County and Philadelphia including Chestnut Hill, East Falls, Manayunk, Mt. Airy, Roxborough, North Philadelphia and Northeast Philadelphia.
